How We Will Get Ekurhuleni Working

Growing the Local Economy

Creating a dynamic local economy by providing reliable basic services (roads, water, electricity), reducing red tape, and attracting investment.

Stabilising the City’s Finances

Ensuring billing is done accurately, resolving the confusion around valuations, prioritising service delivery in the budget, and finding new revenues for the city by leveraging tourism and airport proximity.

Crushing Corruption & Enforcing Accountability

Conducting a lifestyle and skills audit on senior officials and reviewing employment contracts where necessary.

Ensuring rapid disciplinary processes and firing officials found guilty of wrongdoing.

Institutionalising a transparent bidding process, conducting routine reviews of all delayed tenders and requiring monthly reporting on high-value tenders.

Creating a Safer City

Expanding and reforming the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), turning it into a credible policing body that the public can trust. This will be done by vetting officers when appointed and once every 2 years, filling of funded vacancies, ensuring sufficient weapons, ammunition and protective clothing, a working and reliable vehicle fleet and equipping officers with body cams.

Ensuring that the EMPD collaborates more with Community Police Forums (CPF), the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Border Management Authority (BMA) to strengthen by-law enforcement and ensure criminals face consequences.

Clamping down on cable theft through using anti-theft technology and improved coordination between SAPS & EMPD

Improving safety at public facilities, such as parks, through Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).

Delivering Basic Services Sustainably

Setting up a service delivery monitoring grid to identify and systematically fix decaying service hot spots.

Reinvesting residents’ money directly into the services they have paid for, through ring-fencing. Money paid for water and electricity must be reinvested into water & electricity infrastructure

Encouraging private sector participation in the provision of infrastructure.
