How We’re going to take
Cape Town Forward

Stronger Policing

We will take Cape Town forward by ending our reliance on a failing and corrupt SAPS and securing expanded powers, we will get criminals off our streets and into jail by:

  • Building a Metro Police Detective Unit to investigate criminals ourselves.
  • Taking more illegal guns off our streets by using gunfire detection technology and working with local communities and NGOs through advocacy campaigns, school safety programmes and supporting community policing forums.

More Jobs

We will take Cape Town forward by attracting more jobs and making it the easiest city in Africa to do business by:

  • Cutting red tape that blocks businesses from growing, such as eliminating unnecessary fees, clearing approval backlogs for developments and streamlining licensing procedures.
  • Investing in energy, water, and road infrastructure that creates jobs.

Reliable, Affordable Services

We will take Cape Town forward by reducing our reliance on Eskom, and continuing to invest more in essential infrastructure than any other Metro in South Africa by:

  • Replacing 100 km of fresh-water pipe and 100 km of sewer pipe every year.
  • Buying more affordable electricity from independent producers instead of Eskom and passing the savings on to residents.
  • Maintaining the lowest property rates of SA’s Metros.

More Affordable Homes

We will take Cape Town forward by providing more families with opportunities to live in well-located, affordable housing through:

  • Ramping up our affordable rental units programme by working with the private sector.
  • Releasing more city land for affordable housing.
  • Upgrading informal settlements.
  • Increasing tax on commercial short-term rentals.
  • Protecting communities from unlawful land invasions.

Cleaner Public Spaces

We will take Cape Town forward by continuing to provide clean and safe public spaces by:

  • Taking tougher action against illegal dumping and littering.
  • Continuing to upgrade parks, beaches, sidewalks, and public spaces.
  • Expanding cleaning services in informal settlements.
  • Expanding access to Safe Spaces and support services for the homeless.
